Time of My Life
Angel is having the best time at her new school! NOT. There are rivalries, crushes, and puberty. This is going to be a fun year...
First Day Fun
"Hey, Jumps-a-lot!" I looked over at my best friend, Sophie. She was always the prettiest person in the school. "Calm down. It's just sixth grade. It's not like we're meeting the queen."
I smiled. "You're right, it's even better than meeting the queen! There's a new school, new friends, new boys." I said. I winked. "And, why aren't you excited? You're like, the most popular person ever! You're Apple White!"
Sophie rolled her eyes. "You're only saying that so you can be Briar." l chuckled. "One of the reasons...But really! I know you're going to be popular as soon as you walk through the doors."
Sophie hugged me. "Thank you."
We were finally at the school. "Russel Middle School" I read. I took a deep breath. As soon as I walked through those doors, I was going to be a 6th grader. The grader I had always hoped to be. I looked over at Sophie, an also to-be fifth grader.
"Wait...didn't you wear that dress to the Spring Fling last year?" I asked. Sophie smiled. "I can get use out of a dress more than once, you know." I smiled. "But, shouldn't you have grown out of it by now?"
She blushed. "Yeah, I don't have growth spurts very often."
I laughed. "Okay." I took another deep breath and walked in to the school. Most of the people there turned and stared at us.
I nudged Sophie. "See, I told you, Apple White."
Just then, a boy came up to us. "Hi! My name is Logan and I'm going to this school. I'm making it my business to introduce myself to all the new students here."
I smiled. Well, that was nice.
"What grade are you in?" Sophie asked. "Oh, I'm in 6th, just like you." He replied with a huge smile on his face. "Alright, well we should be going." I said. "Nice meeting you Logan." He waved goodbye. We walked away.
Some more kids walked in. But, he didn't introduce himself to them. Hmm.
I looked around. Nobody I knew. There were some people I had seen at recess sometimes, but nobody that I really knew. Sophie was pointing out cute boys, but I really didn't look. I just nodded. "So, this is our school." I thought. "No more recess, no more cubbies, no more anything. Just constant walking back and forth."
Then, my eyes stumbled upon something more interesting than grieving, more interesting than celebrating (and for me, that's saying a lot), more interesting than walking around aimlessly, more interesting than watching "Sophie's Choice".
I stopped. Now, this was no ordinary boy. This was one of those mouth-drop heart-stop eyes-pop boys. I could feel all of those things happening to me, as a matter of fact.
Sophie noticed me stop and turned around. "What?" She looked where I was looking. "Oh, Richard. There's a rumor going around about him, that he's one of the 'popular' boys. He's not even that cute." She said in an I-know-more-than-you sort of way. I looked at her. "You've been in this school for less than five minutes, how do you already know about rumors?" She held up her phone.
"Alright. But still, he's a boy. And I think he's cute. So l need help! BOY help. Your specialty." I said. She raised her eyebrows. "You're not actually thinking of dating him, are you?" I smiled in a hazy-eyed sort of way. "I'm seeeeriously considering it."
Richard closed his locker and turned around. He smiled at us and walked away. "He smiled at me. This is going to be the best year EVER!"
Or so I thought.
