Time Does Funny Things
You can say that Elena is your average girl, but she's not. With a life she can't escape until she goes off to school Elena is stuck at home in a house where she feels unwanted. Life is about to throw another curve-ball at her, when Dean ex-longtime friend suddenly wants to be friends again. She's having a hard time deciphering what this sudden flip of her heart means, and what it means to be a true family.
Tomorrow is the first day of senior year. Finally. I'll be graduating soon, and then I'll be off to Uni and away from here. If only it was as simple as it sounded in my head.
I didn't get much sleep last night, and it wasn't because of nerves. In all honesty, I haven't been getting much sleep in the last month. I've been having these nightmares, and these headaches that it just makes it hard to sleep. Fortunately, no one in my family seems to notice, or even care at all.
That was my mom, which means that I should probably start getting ready for school. Ugh. I decided to wear a cute floral romper with some strappy sandals. I decided to put my hair up in a braid crown, and put on some light makeup. Fortunately, it doesn't take long for me to get ready. Mom usually makes to go breakfast, and today it was no different. Although I did have to wait for my twin brother Luke -- he's my ride. Luke and I used to be really close growing up, but then high school happened, and now I hardly talk to him. He's one of the popular kids at school, and I'm sort of just there with my own group of friends. We have an older brother Nick; he's away at school living life and what not. Finally, he's ready, time for school.
The car ride to school is silent. Not that I expect much, but I miss the conversations we used to have. We're twins for crying out loud it's not supposed to be like this. I want to say something, but I can't bring myself to say something. On the way we also have to pick up Luke's girlfriend Cassidy (rolls eyes). We kind of sort of hate each other -- hate being used lightly. Ugh she's honest to God so annoying. I'm the first out the car, and I'm off to find one of my best friend's.
I spot Aria a little ways away. Ever the fashionista she's wearing a light blue skirt with a white blouse, and heels. She's also wearing a chunky necklace, and some stud earrings. As soon as I catch up with her we see our other best friend, Sora, so we wait for her. She's wearing belted high-waisted shorts with a simple white blouse and gold sandals. As soon as she catches up with us we all head to our lockers. By some miracle our lockers end up near each other. I'm assuming by some horrible disaster our lockers also ended up near Luke and his best friend Dean. Dean has been around with us for as long as I can remember. His family is super close with our family. We even celebrate holidays together. Dean and I make eye contact with each other for a brief second. He was my best friend too, and high school tore them away from me, but more about that later. Time to start school.
I fortunately have homeroom with Ms. Frias. Life seems to like making my life miserable, so the only person I really know in this class is Dean. Why don't you just kill me now? I decided to sit next to the window in the back and away from prying eyes. Surprisingly he doesn't sit too far away from me.
School is finally over! I decide I could just walk home from school because Luke is probably going to go to his girlfriend's house, and he usually always complains about having to take me home, and I just don't want to deal with that. Since it's the first day of school all the clubs I'm involved in won't meet up for at least another two weeks. So I decide to just stay in the Art room, and paint my heart away. Painting is the only thing that can truly take my mind away from everything that's going on here.
One thing I didn't mention was how long it takes me to walk home. We live about and hour out. School gets out at 2:30, and I didn't leave for about another hour. So I won't be home until half an hour before 5, which means that I'll probably get in trouble for something or the other. Oh well.
I almost make it to my bedroom on time, but I'm instead called down by my mother. "Yes mom?"
"Will you come downstairs for a moment?" she says.
When I get there I see Dean's family, the Collins. So that's what this is I'm obliged to say hi.
"Hey Mr. and Mrs. Collins it's a pleasure seeing you again," I say with no trace of honesty in my voice. I'm pretty certain they know so they just give me a nod. Dean is their only child, so I'm positive they don't like me at all given everything that has happened. "Well I'm off to my bedroom see you all later!"
Now in the comfort of my own bedroom I decided to three way call my friends to see if we can hang out later.
"Hey girly," says Aria
"What's up?" says Sora
"Can we hang out later today? The Collins are here, and I'd really not like to be in the same house as them."
Sora replies by saying, "Sure thing I'll be there in a few to pick you up, and we can hang out at my house."
"Yes! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! See you both later! Bye!"
Now to let my mom know. When I go back downstairs I see her outback. She says I can go, but I can tell she really doesn't want me to. There's nothing I can do about it, so I head back in. Right as I close the sliding door behind me I'm suddenly getting dragged into the closet in the hallway. It's Dean.
"Aria," he breathes out my name, and for some reason unknown my heart flutters a bit.
"We need to talk." he says.
