Chapter 2

The Reapers

I woke up in a hospital. A nurse was standing over me, analyzing my injury. I couldn't remember at the time why I was in here. She realized I was awake, and asked me how I was feeling. I replied that I felt good, even though it felt like I was going through hell. That's when I remembered - the game.

"Where are my parents?" I asked.

"Uh...sir? You dont have parents." The nurse left the room, leaving me all alone. I have no parents? Is she freaking crazy? I saw my mother yesterday night. That is, if I've been in the hospital for the whole night.

A girl walked into the room, and she was really pretty. Her dark brown hair covered her glowing blue eyes. She was fair-skinned, with multiple scars on her face. She wore torn jeans and a faded purple top, and it looked like she didnt care about her looks and didnt even try looking good. She took a seat next to me. I didn't have the slightest idea who she was, but I was more than happy having her beside me.

"Sup," I said weakly. It hurt to talk.

She didn't answer the greeting as I thought she would have. Instead, she leaned closely to my ear, and whispered,"I know who you are. You may have the whole nation fooled, but not me. There's no escape." She leaned back, stood up, and left the room. That was the most depressing talk I've had with a girl.

But I thought about what she had said about me. It didn't make any sense. I was just a 14 year old boy that's almost a freshman in high school. I haven't fooled anyone. And what was that crap about not having parents? This whole incident has been so confusing. Just so confusing. By it was also surprising.

You see, my life is quite dull and boring. I get no adventures whatsoever. The only adventure and surprises that I ever get are from video games. But right now, I'm getting quite a few surprises. Maybe video games aren't the only thing with adventure and surprised.

Suddenly, I heard shouting. I sat up and tried to listen, despite the pain in my chest. The shouts quickly turned into screams. That's when I heard the gunshots. Unmistakable. Footsteps became increasingly louder, and so did the screams.

They were coming for me.

I yanked all the cords and bandages off of me and stood up. Pain shot through my body, but I needed to get out of the room. I was about to open a window when the door swung open, slamming into the wall beside it. They were 5 people, each with masks, a red hoodie, and machine guns. All of them aimed at me.

Without thinking, I ducked as the bullets flew straight to where my head would've been. I punched a guy in the stomach and snatched his weapon out of his hand. I fired away, killing a person before it was knocked out of my hand. I was soon pinned to the ground, my hands held tightly. There was nothing I could do. I was going to die.
