It's happening (weird poem)

Teens think that it won't happen to them. When they realize it will, it's too late.

Chapter 1

Real Lies

We aren't invincible.
We aren't immune.
We aren't incredible.
Young lives are even more threatened.
We bleed.
We cry.
We die.
And we mourn.
She sobs, “I miss you.”
He weeps, “I love you more than I did before.”
Ask us anything.
War rages inside.
War takes its toll outside.
We were safe.
We were protected.
We could stop the car and the gun and the bottle.
But when coming home isn’t an option anymore, we realize that’s a real lie.
