Chapter 1

Common Room

Ari’s POV
I was relieved that the Sorting was over. Who knew it would be so nerve racking? Everyone was eating the feast except Will and I. It probably looked a bit strange, everyone was putting food on their plate and eating rather quickly like it would be taken away any given moment. Then there were two kids just sitting there not touching anything. So I did the most nonchalant thing a teenage girl from America could do, I took out my cell phone and pretended to read the texts that I don’t have.
“Uh, what exactly are you doing?” Ginny asked me curiously but worried at the same time.
I looked up innocently,”Reading the texts from my friends in America. I got one right as McGonagall put the Sorting Hat on my head and obviously, I couldn’t look at it then. That would have been totally awkward.”
“What are these things you call a text? And what’s in your hand?” Ginny asked me curiously as if my phone was a bomb and the texts triggered it. I realized that they had never heard of texting or a cell phone. Hopefully they heard of a telephone. Then I would be seriously worried and I would have to catch these poor out of dated teens up on everyday lifestyle. But I do think it’s rather cute that they don’t know what one is and that I have to explain it to them.
“So you are really telling us that you haven’t heard what a cell phone is? Or a text message?” I asked with a curious smile on my face.
“No I have heard of both those things,” Hermione said flatly. “A cell phone basically a telephone that is portable and is now getting so technically updated that it has games, the internet, cameras, TV and a lot more. And a text is like a message that you just type and you don’t have to talk or anything you just type it on the cell phone and it will send to the person who you want it to send to. It’s really very simple but sounds very confusing when it gets thrown at you all at once.”
Will looked as surprised as I felt. I knew she was smart but I didn’t know she knew all about modern day stuff that wizards usually don’t bother with. “Hermione, that’s exactly right! How did you know so much about this stuff? Do you have a phone?” I asked curiously. Maybe some of these guys weren’t as outdated as I thought.
“I’m muggle born so I have a lot of muggle friends back home and they all have cell phones and laptops, and facebook and they really want me to get them but I just don’t want to bring it here and I prefer to live the wizard way. That’s all.”
“Oh” I said.
“Internet? Laptops? What are these things…..they sound strange.” Ginny gasped
“Facebook? What do you like stick your face in a book? Do muggles really do that for fun? Cause that’s just bloody strange!” Ron said very confused. I cracked up at that. It was so ridiculous that it was funny. Hermione and Will smirked and Ginny still looked as confused as Ron did. “What? What’s so funny? Why are you laughing?” Ron shrieked in confusion. I couldn’t control my laughter, this was just too much.
Harry sighed with a smile,”Oh, what are we going to do with them?”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Will’s POV
Hermione and Ron were something called prefects; apparently it was an award, so they went to lead the first years to the common room. But technically weren’t Ari and I first years. I didn’t know if I should follow or not but Ginny grabbed me.
“Just come with me. We’re all going to the same place anyway. It won’t matter who you go with… but if you would like to go with them, you can.” She looked taken back when she said this.
“Of course I’ll come with you,” I said with a wink. I mustered up a little courage then grabbed her hand. It was so soft and delicate, I was afraid that I would break it if I held it too hard. But there is probably a spell that could fix it in five seconds. With that thought, we walked up with the coolest moving staircases ever. I will have to mention it to Grandpa Carlisle.
Harry’s POV
I watched as Will grabbed Ginny’s hand. Man he was smooth. He didn’t even notice everyone staring. All the girls were probably mad that he was snatched up so quickly. Could I maybe do that? Ari was standing there in the middle of chaos with a very confused look on her face. She didn’t know where to go. So I walked up to her and she had indent in between her eyebrows that I’m guessing she got when she was worried or confused. I thought it was adorable. I walked up to her and smiled.
“You look very confused… it’s actually kind of funny.” As soon as I said this, the worried look left her face and in exchange was a little sarcastic smirk.
“Very funny,” she said, then hit me! Man, this girl was seriously strong. After her hand left my arm, it was a little cold and it really hurt!
“Oww! What was that for?” I cried while laughing
“I was genuinely confused! That’s my confused face! Accept it! Just don’t look at me when I’m confused!” she cried with a smile.
“Well are you still confused? Because the look is gone,” I said while smirking. Her eyes bulged out of her head and her mouth was open.
“OF COURSE I’M STILL CONFUSED!! I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO GO!!” She tried to hit me again but I blocked it and grabbed her arm.
“Well, let me show you where to go then,” I slid my hand down her arm to her hand and I noticed that she was freezing cold, but I didn’t say anything. Our eyes were practically glued to each other’s, I felt as if I couldn’t look away for the life in me, and I know that I don’t want to. As my hand slid into hers, she developed a small smile on her face. With a wink, I pulled her to the common room. I felt on top of the world, I honestly don’t think I could of do that ever ever again.
Ginny’s POV
When Will and I arrived at the common room, everyone was staring. I tried not to notice but it was quite hard. It was as if their eyes could not leave us. Will practically read my mind.
“Just ignore them, don’t let their staring get to you,” he whispered and tried to reassure me.
I turned to face him,” It’s not that easy to ignore,” I felt my face redden as I looked up into his eyes. He was looking down at me with concern. I did like attention at times but not this much attention. “Everyone is watching our every move, it’s kind of creepy actually,” I said staring up at him.
“You’re right, but you can’t control all their eyes to like stalk some other people,” he said
“You’d be surprised what magic does,” I said not actually considering doing an unforgiveable curse. He smiled down at me. It was amazing. “It’s all your fault why people are staring!” I said pushing him a little with my own smile on my face.
“What! Why??” He asked with a confused look.
“All the guys are jealous of you-“
“For talking to you and holding your hand” he interrupted
“No because of your killer looks that all the guys wish they had and all the girls that want to be with you!” I cried. But as I was talking, I was blushing. He was sweet about all the guys that want to be holding my hand.
“Nah, that’s not true. They want to be in my position talking and getting to know you. From all that I know, I already love and so do the people staring. And if they don’t love you, they don’t know what they’re missing.” He took a step closer so I could feel his breath. I saw Michael Corner, my ex, glaring into Will’s back but I decided not to say anything. . He grabbed both of my hands and then everyone was watching us. Suddenly I heard a tinkling laughter and Harry’s laughter as Ari and he burst into the common room. Everyone turned to face them. They ignored everyone’s staring and came to join us. “Hey guys so I want to introduce you to some of my friends. Ginny you come too,” Harry said suddenly. I noticed that he and Ari were still holding hands. He led Ari, Will and I over to Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan who were reading the Daily Prophet.
“Hey, Harry,” Dean said watching us approach,”Good Holiday?”
“Not bad,” Harry muttered, the smile leaving his face. “You?”
“Yeah, it was okay,” chuckled Dean. “Better than Seamus’s anyway, he was just telling me.”
“Why, what happened, Seamus?” I asked curiously. Seamus did not answer immediately he was taking his time folding up the prophet and setting it down right in front of him. Then he said still sitting and not looking at Harry,
“Me mam didn’t want me to come back.”
“What?” Harry said with alarmed but curious eyes.
“She didn’t want me to come back to Hogwarts.” Seamus turned away to take a rather long sip of butter beer.
“But- why?” said Harry astonished. I knew Seamus’s mother was a witch but I never thought she was a bit like Harry’s muggle aunt and uncle whom he lived with. Seamus did not answer until he finished swallowing completely,
“Well,” he said in a measured voice, “I suppose . . . because of you.”
“What d’you mean?” Harry said quickly. I was standing close to him so my hand accidentally hit his wrist. I felt his pulse for a moment and it was fast.
“Well,” Seamus said again, still avoiding Harry’s eyes, “she . . . er . . . well, it’s not just you, it’s Dumbledore too . . . “
“She believes in the Daily Prophet?” said Harry. “She thinks I’m a liar and Dumbledore’s an old fool?” Ari let out a small gasp and I touched her arm comfortingly.
Seamus looked up at him, “Yeah something like that.” Harry said nothing. He let go of Ari’s hand angrily, turned and started to walk away, but before he could do so, Seamus said, “Look . . . what did happen that night when . . . you know, when . . . with Cedric Diggory and all?”
Harry turned around slowly, “What are you asking me for?” Harry retorted, “Just read the Daily Prophet like your stupid mother, why don’t you? That will tell you all you need to know.”
“Don’t you have a go at my mother,” snapped Seamus. Will edged in front of me sensing there was a fight in the air. I grabbed his hand and Ari grabbed my arm. Blimey, she had a grip! I started to take small steps backwards getting away from the two boys, leading Will and Ari back with me.
“I’ll have a go at anyone who calls me a liar,” said Harry.
“Don’t talk to me like that!”
“I’ll talk to you how I want,” said Harry. I could physically see his temper rising and it wasn’t pretty.
Ari’s POV
So many questions were running through my head. How was Harry a liar? What’s the Daily Prophet? I know that I should be used to the anger because of Jacob always turning into a werewolf and the whole pack gets so angry so quickly, I was still scared that they would get injured using spells and curses. Seamus’s anger interrupted my train of thought,
“Leave my mother out of this, Potter!” screamed Seamus. Then Ron walked in at the worst possible moment.
“What’s going on?” His eyes widened when he processed what was going on. His eyes traveled from Harry whose wand was pointed at Seamus, to Seamus who was standing there with both fists raised, “He’s having a go at my mother!”
“What?” Ron said, “Harry wouldn’t do that- we met your mother, we liked her . . .”
“That’s before she started believing every word the stinking Daily Prophet writes about me!” said Harry at the top of his voice.
“Oh,” Ron said “Oh . . . Right. ” Harry put his wand down, grabbed my hand, the one that wasn’t clutching Ginny’s arm for dear life and led me, Ginny, Will, Ron, and a very confused Hermione who just entered the common room with a surprised look on her face as Ron grabbed her forearm and led her out as she said,” Ron? What’s going on? What just happened? Why is he so mad? RON?” I was still confused and by the look on Will’s face as Ginny led him out told me that he was too. Harry had a lot of explaining to do.
