Chapter 6

First Date

The next morning at breakfast, Alex won't even look at me. Not that I blame him. I feel like the worlds biggest jerk and I feel like there is a huge rock in my stomach. I can barely force down a piece of dry toast. When I am done, I quickly leave the table, not once glancing back. I haven't caught one sight of Sirius all morning, and butterflies begin swarming around the cold stone in my stomach as I treck over the cold grounds toward the mirror surfaced black lake. I can't help wondering if this is all some collosal joke and Sirius is just waiting nearby to jump out and say "got ya". But when I reach that tall, wide oak tree, I see him at its base. He is leaning back against the trunk, his hands resting on his knees and his face pointed toward the feebly shining sun, his eyes lightly closed. I step closer until my shadow blocks the rays bathing his face. His lips stretch up in a wide smile, but his eyes don't open.

"You came," he says with a relieved sigh.

"I told you I would," I remind him, shifting back and forth on my feet in slight nervousness.

"Yes, but I wasn't sure you were brave enough to actually show up," he says, finally opeining those green eyes and looking straight at my face.

"Why wouldn't I be brave enough? You are not that scary," I tell him.

"You can't fool me Val, I scare the inferno out of you," he tells me with a wicked smile.

"Been brushing up on your Itialiano E sfrontato diavolo."

"Only the swear words. And I am not a cocky devil," he laughs.

"How did you...?" I ask, failing to supress my surprise at his accurate translation.

"This isn't the first time you have called me that," he says, shoving off the cold grass to his feet. In an instant his arm is around my waist and he tips me back into a low dip, my long, loose hair brushing the grass. Then his face is less than an inch from mine and is warm breath is breaking over my flushed skin. His other rough, burning hand comes up to cup my cheek. I can't take it any more, I close the distance and smash my lips against his. I can feel his smile against my mouth, but I couldn't stop if I wanted to. My fingers dig into his arms as he supports my weight. But our awkward position is to precarious and we topple backwards to the ground at the base of that tree. My breath is forced out in a gush as he lands on top of me. Our tumble effectivly ends the kiss as we both break out in laughter. The sound of our mingled enjoyment is like music and by the time we stop, tears are falling down my cheek.

Sirius rolls over onto his side and looks down at me. I stare into that beautiful face amazed at the strange new feelings rushing through me. I reach up to run my fingers over the soft, warm skin of his cheek. His eyes drop closed as he leans gently into my touch.

"I keep waiting for this to end and for you to disappear," he says in a low, barely audible voice.

"Well, I can run if you keep your eyes closed," I tell him and a half smile quirks the side of his face.

"Now that I have you, I don't think I could ever let you get away," he says his entrancing green eyes finally opening and zeroing in on my face.

"I'd like to see you try. I am much faster than I look," I tease and I see a spark of interest flare in his face.

"I'll give you a 20 second head start," he says, rolling away from me and getting to his knees.

"You're kidding," I scoff, propping myself up on my elbow and looking at him in disbelief.

"You are running out of time. You better start running," he says in a most serious manner.

I immediatly hop to my feet and take off. I wasn't lying, I am quite fast and easily cover ground. I count down internally and when I hit zero, I look behind me to see how close he is. He is no where to be found. The distant ground beneath the oak tree is empty. I slow and come to a stop, looking around. The grounds are empty. Swearing up a storm in unintelligable Italian, I stalk back to the castle. But I don't make it.

I don't hear him coming, but suddenly familiar arms are wrapping around me and lifting me off the ground and onto a broomstick. Nervous about my precarious position perched on the thin broom handle, I throw my arms around Sirius and he holds me securly against his chest. I can feel his laughter as I hold on to him.

"I told you I would find you," he says in my ear.

"You cheated," I accuse.

"You never said I couldn't use a broom, therefore, I am not cheating," he argues.

"Fine, you got me. Now where are you taking me?" I ask.

"That, my beautiful Italian Mistress, is a surprise," he answers.

"Mistress?" I ask.

"Yes ma'am. Now just enjoy the view and the feel of my amazing, rock hard body," he says and I can't help laughing.
